Full Spectrum Warfare – Travelling Exhibition
(2026)
Full Spectrum Warfare is a traveling exhibition based on my photographic project and book Shadows of the State (2014 – 2018), and has been developed with Dr. Elspeth van Veeren and with generous support from University of the Arts London.
Shadows of the State explores the world of numbers stations, mysterious radio broadcasts consisting of coded messages, presumed to be intended for undercover intelligence agents in enemy states. Using open source research into these stations and associated radio jammers, propaganda broadcasts and other transmission, I reveal a war raging in the shortwave bands.
Full Spectrum Warfare consists of three elements. One is a series of framed prints of high resolution satellite images of transmission sites linked to intelligence broadcasts. Second are large scale fabric banners depicting spectrograms, visualisations of the radio transmissions. Third are a series of pixelated portraits of intelligence agents unmasked and found to have used these transmissions as prt of their work.
In addition to these core elements there are also various optional extras available by request, including Numbers in the Dark, a 20 minute looping video installation with an ambient audio soundtrack, a copy of the Shadows of the State book, and various items of research material and other ephemera from the making of the project, including declassified documents and clandestine radio equipment. The combination of exhibition elements is designed to be reshaped for different spaces, and to be presentable as both a small selection of images for small venues, or as a complete display for larger ones.
Full Spectrum Warfare consists of:
= Thirty-one framed prints, (53 x 49 cm each)
= Eighteen cotton banners (115 x 300 cm each)
= Numbers in the Dark, a 22 minute looping HD video with ambient soundtrack
= Display copy of the Depravity’s Rainbow book
= Housed in shipping crate, 120 x 60 x 80 cm, approximately XX kg when packed.
= Additional imagery, research materials and project ephemera available by arrangement.
