Design notes:
The Memory of History was heavily influenced by B.S Johnsons 1969 novel The Unfortunates, an extremely unusual book which attempts to structurally recreate the unpredictable return of memories. It also built on my experiences as a history student, and my reluctance to impose my own narrative structure in a project which was in large part about the dangers of narrative history. The box is designed to resemble a history book in size and tone, but the material within (12 short chapters of text and 56 photographs) are almost completely without structure.
